Local Groups and Venues

The following are local (Twin Cities, Minnesota, U.S.A.) groups and venues. Again, please send me URLs for more so that I can add them.

The Dakota
The Dakota is a bar and grill that also hosts the big names in jazz that come to town. Everyone from Chick Corea to Max Roach have played at The Dakota. There is jazz every night, with a cover charge ranging from 3 bucks to 35 dollars. The big bucks go to the big names, of course, and are usually only on weekends. The setup is nice, if a bit cramped - the stage divides the bar from the restaurant, with the front of the stage facing the bar. There are maybe 20 or so small tables between the bar and the stage, where the sound quality is great. The rest of the Dakota has only mediocre sound quality, so get there early for the bigger shows.
The Minnesota Orchestra
The Minnesota Orchestra is a full-sized symphonic orchestra, founded in 1903. Some of its more recent productions include Mahler's 3rd symphony, Beethoven's 9th symphony, and Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 4. The productions are superb, and rival that of any by the east coast philharmonics. Their home is Orchestra Hall (kinda self-explanatory, I think).
Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra
The Twin Cities are one of two major cities (yes, I am counting Minneapolis and St. Paul as one city here) in the United States to be home to both a full-sized symphonic orchestra as well as a chamber orchestra. The Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra is made up of 33 virtuosos, which one can tell immediately upon hearing them play. They are definately the cream of the crop of Minnesota's musicians. They play at several different locations in the Twin Cities.
